Behaviour of reinforced concrete corbels strengthened by FRP composites and steel bars: a critical review

Abstract In reinforced concrete (RC) structures, corbels that extend from the faces of columns are commonly employed to support primary beams and girders. Frequently, use is limited cantilevers with a shear span-depth ratio often less than 2. Because this relatively low ratio, corbel strength normally dominated by shear, which comparable deep beams. However, owing some reasons (e.g., design and/or construction faults, modification facility use, deterioration, aging), strengthening existing becoming prime importance. The aim present paper conduct critical review proposed techniques have been implemented strengthen RC corbels. These comprised near surface mounted (NSM) steel bars, NSM fibre polymer (FRP) FRP sheets. latter strategy included carbon (CFRP) glass (GFRP) Hybrid (combining sheets FRP/steel bars) was also highlighted in paper. strengthened (upgraded) were evaluated considering several parameters, including span depth (a/d), quantity configuration reinforcement, type, levels damage tested specimens.
